Jaluit is a place where several layers of Marshall Islands history remain visible. Once an important administrative and trading centre, the atoll later became a Japanese base and a target during the Second World War. Wrecks and abandoned buildings still sit within a landscape where life continues around the lagoon, the church, the wharf and the sea. These photographs move between that inherited history and the everyday life of Jabor today.
